NewsMagine expands cloud-based TV service
By Steve Outridge August 2nd, 2013
Magine, the cloud-based TV service, is now available in beta in Germany.

The service, devised by video-on-demand specialist Mattias Hjelmstedt, offers access to international programming via its easy-to-use customer interface.

Its cloud-based architecture removes the need for set-top boxes, dishes and cables. The subscription-based service offers viewers the ability to watch live and recorded programmes on international channels on all devices.

Subscribers can choose from channel packages, with monthly subscriptions starting from €11.50.

A limited number of users in Germany will get the chance to test Magine before its full launch there in the autumn. German viewers can apply for test access to the service at www.magine.com.

Magine’s Swedish founders promised rapid expansion plans into major European markets in May. After starting in Sweden, Magine launched in beta in Spain this summer.

We’re very pleased that we’ve succeeded in making Magine available in three European markets within half a year’s time,” said Hjelmstedt. “We’re convinced that German viewers will be enthusiastic about Magine because we enable them to enjoy a better kind of TV viewing.”

Magine raised $19 million from Swedish and international investors. Magine says the service will be available to viewers in at least three further markets before the end of the year.

German beta users will be able to access RTL, VOX, RTL II, SUPER RTL, n-tv, RTL NITRO, ZDF, Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, VIVA, DMAX.

Magine said negotiations with more international media providers were under way to allow the service to expand its programme offering.
