Foxtel to launch TV Everywhere next month
By Jamie Beach July 17th, 2013
Australian telco Foxtel has indicated that it plans to launch a new over-the-top TV service called ‘Play’ next month, bringing over 40 linear channels to a variety of connected devices such as smart TVs, PCs and smartphones, with no lock-in contracts.
National newspaper The Australian quotes Foxtel’s executive director of television Brian Walsh as saying that the new service will liberate a lot of people who want to get TV from Foxtel but cannot afford a full-blown subscription TV package.
The new service is expected to start at AUD 25 (US$ 23) per month, compared to a minimum spend of AUD 47 per month for the most basic ‘Essentials’ package for its pay-TV service (delivered via cable and satellite).
