"Some of the future growth in outdoor ad companies is coming in an expansion of digital billboards, which can change their ads, but can also communicate interactively with mobile phones carried by people walking by. A billboard could respond to user inputs for instance, or allow users to buy products with their phones.
Clear Channel is in discussions with mobile-phone services and manufacturers about ways to enable that communication , Mr. Eccleshare said, though he declined to specify with whom.
"As you can use your mobile as a payment device, you can see how we can become a transactional medium," Mr. Eccleshare said. "I see us working collaboratively with the mobile assets to work out the technology," he said."
Sounds like what they are trying to do is incredibly forward looking. I can see many of these interactive services they want to provide working with the shows like travel tech!
