" SAN LUIS CELEBRATES NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT WATER PUMP " San Luis, Arizona – San Luis Celebrates The Completion Of The City’s New Energy Efficient Water Pump Project At Well Site #4. “Pumps of this type usually last for 20 years and ultimately result in a savings of more than $300,000.00 over the service life of the equipment...So we know we did good… and I am privileged to be a part of this accomplishment.” The existing well pump is rated at 75hp and requires a large surge tank with a 40 hp booster pump to push the water through manganese filters. The new pump is 100 hp and the variable drive allows for more efficient start-up. It is strong enough to push the water through manganese filters without the need for an additional tank to be pressurized by a "booster pump." Dr. Michael Trend said, “The main thing is that we'll save a lot of electricity while accomplishing the same job. We pump 1,000 gallons a minute at that site, 23 hours a day, seven days a week. The new pump will be a real workhorse for us..."Well Site #4 came on line in the late 1990s. It's one of our best wells and the new pump will really help out .” This is the sixth project in San Luis funded by stimulus money for infrastructure… (Total amount is in excess of $1 million.) Additional Highligts: Most of the people live in San Luis Rio Colorado - in Mexico. I could see SOLAR as an energy source - but water is too precious to waste in this desert area. |
