SEC Chairman to Give Keynote Address at NACD Annua

WASHINGTON, July 16, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sworn in as the new chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) earlier this year—and the first prosecutor and second woman to permanently lead the commission—Mary Jo White has been hard at work setting priorities. She will share her view of the 2013 annual reporting season and SEC priorities for 2014 during her keynote address at the National Association of Corporate Directors' (NACD's) annual Board Leadership Conference on Oct. 13-15 in Washington, D.C.

White's legal career has led her to serve as both a defense and prosecutorial lawyer. She served for nine years as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where she oversaw the prosecution of mafia boss John Gotti and the terrorists behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. White also is familiar with the inner workings of the boardroom, having served as an independent director for Nasdaq OMX from 2002 to 2006 and served on its audit, executive, and policy committees.

She has received numerous awards, including the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award, the George W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism, and the Sandra Day O'Connor Award for Distinction in Public Service.
