I am preparing my Aunt Margie's baked beans. It's a great summer holiday picnic/bbq food. I guess it could be used as a pie filling.
In a slow cooker/crock pot:
2 or 3 28 oz cans of any kind of beans. I am using the Safeway homestyle baked beans today because they were the cheapest. Best to start with only 2 cans as with the other stuff you might not have room for the 3rd can.
1 jar of Heinz Chili Sauce
Chopped raw onion
Some molasses ( I am out of molasses so I substituted maple syrup - the real stuff)
some browned hamburger. I put in 1 1/2 lbs today.
I am adding some hot italian sausage today, cooked first and cut into small pieces.
I add a bit of ground ghost pepper (naga bhut jolokia). Careful with this stuff - was the hottest known pepper until the the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T was rated a few years ago.
This is a good dish if you're trying to figure out what to serve semi vegetarian guests. It has beans and tomato sauce on the veggie side, and although it has beef and pork, you can assure folks there is no fish, shellfish or fowl.
