The Device That Fixes Heart Failure in 15 Minutes
You’ve heard of heart failure… but how about diastolic heart failure?
Simply put, attacks occur when the muscle in the heart is unable to pump enough blood through the body. Suffice it to say, it’s a pretty debilitating condition that causes severe breathing problems and a death rate similar to cancer.
It’s hardly a rare condition, either. The illness is responsible for half of all cardiac failures.
Patients can usually take drugs to alleviate the symptoms, but a certain one-of-a-kind technology is providing the first effective alternative to popping pills…
Saving Lives… And Costs
Doctors at Massachusetts-based medical device maker, DC Devices, have devised a unique, permanent heart implant that represents a new way to treat diastolic heart failure.
Called the InterAtrial Shunt Device (IASD), this innovative new implant is designed to relieve blood pressure on the left side of the heart (the area that causes diastolic heart failure) and redistribute it to the right side to allow for better flow around the body.
In addition, the trans-catheterization insertion procedure is minimally invasive and takes about 15 minutes, which is significantly more cost-effective in terms of both surgery and patient hospitalization.
