This is how it most likely went... Mr. Reid loans the company money.
The company owes Mr. Reid shares for that money.
Mr. Reid has a debt he must satisfy.
Mr. Reid doesn't take those shares for the cash loan but instead just transfers them to a 3rd party. The company has paid Mr. Reid back and the lender to Mr. Reid is paid...
