Rizhao enjoys remarkable port advantages. It has two port areas, namely Shijiu port area and Lanshan port area. With broad bay, deep water, vast land area, mild climate and no ice or silt, Rizhao Port has excellent conditions for port building. It now has 37 productive berths which can handle ships of 300,000 tons. The verified handling capacity reaches 120.11 million tons.

Now Rizhao Port is a first level port in China’s ore transportation system, export port for shouth coal transportation channel, China’s largest transfer base for bulk cement, China’s second largest processing and transfer base for grain and oil in the north area, the largest limber unloading distribution center and largest distributing base for liquified Chemicals in the north of Yangtze River. It is also a base port for domestic container trade and feeder service port for international trade. Being a large transfer and storage base for petroleum and natural gas under national planning, Rizhao Port occupies an important position in China’s layout of productivity and large bulk cargo transportation. In 2003, the passenger and cargo ferry line from Rizhao Port to Pyongtaek in Korea was open to public. In 2009, the cargo throughput of Rizhao Port amounted to 181 million tons, making it the 9th largest port along China’s coast and the 2nd largest port in Shandong Province. The throughput of the container terminal jointly built with Qingdao Port reached 708.6 thousand TEUs, with an increase of 64.7%. The long-term planning of Rizhao Port has been approved which aims to build 280 deepwater berths with an annual throughput capacity of 600 million tons.

Rizhao is neither severe cold in winter nor intense hot in summer. The quality of atmosphere, sea water and fresh water is kept to be national fist class standard. The air quality is 100% up to the standard. The city has beautiful natural scenery featuring with “blue sky, blue sea and golden sand beach”. Enjoying abundant tourist resources, it has scenic sports like Mt. Wulian, Mt. Jiuxian and Mt. Fulai. The Gingko tree on the Mt. Fulai, is more than 3500 years old honored as the “No 1 tree in the world” With smooth beach, fine sand and crystal water, the 64-kilometer-long golden sand beach can rival the beauty of any other beach in the world.

Rizhao has been successively awarded many honorable titles, such as “National Model City for Garden Greening”, “China Top Tourist City”, “National Garden City”, “National Model City for Environmental Protection”, “China Hygienic City”, “National Model City for Mutual Support between Civilian and Armed Forces”, “China Water-Saving City”, “National Pilot City of Circular Economy”, “National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone”, “City for China Human Habitat Award” and “ National Model Green City”.

There are totally 6 universities in the Park with 57,000 students residing on the campus. Meanwhile, Qingda Hainuo Science & Technology Incubation Center of Tsinghua University, Rizhao R&D Base of Overseas Chinese Management Association, and Rizhao R&D Base of China National Institute for Educational Research have been established in Rizhao University Park.
