NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 07/24/12 -- On July 20th, 2012 Yippy, Inc. (OTCQX: YIPI) filed disclosure of the addition of a new member to their Board of Directors, Edward Noel, former Chief Revenue Officer and Chief Strategy Officer of Lycos, Inc.
Lycos was originally a search engine established the same year as Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) and 3 years prior to Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and MSN Search (NASDAQ: MSFT) but has emerged into a network of community and social sites that include Gamesville.com, Tripod.com, AngelFire.com and its namesake, Lycos.com.
Clusty, purchased by Yippy in 2010, was originally developed by Vivísimo. Vivísimo, now owned by IBM, is a company built on web search technology developed by Carnegie Mellon University researchers, much like Lycos was a decade earlier. Vivisimo was acquired by IBM to boost their "Big Data Analytic" capabilities.
