Thought Provoking Post From Another Board
I was glad to see EDIG finally pursue patent licensing (2005?), as this was of great interest to me. It's unfortunate that they waited so long to engage. I recall a conversation with Robert in Jan 2000 in which I asked about their intent in this regard. I was advised that they were waiting for flash memory to become ubiquitus in the marketplace. I recall being a bit baffled, because flash had already captured interest and was already in fairly wide-spread use, plus I realized that this would involve litigation (ultimately), and that this takes/ eats time (as we now see).
In that same conversation, I finally got approval to publish the second article in the " MP3 to SDMI" series, and this second article actually mentioned eDigital specifically as a solution to the multi-CODEC/watermarking concern. Unfortunately that approval came too late (after waiting 3-4 months), as the Editor of the site where it was to be published as a follow-up was no longer interested, and refused to publish. As "punishment"/retaliation, I refused to deliver any further articles for publication, though two or three were already planned and desired. So much for my career as a freelance writer ! LOL My first two articles (one revolving around EDIG in 9/1999, the other PTSC in 4/1999) got literally hundreds of thousands of hits (international - seven languages) via an emag sponsored by Sun Micro, so the failure to get that second EDIG article published was a real disappointment. It did get "published" informally via message boards .
Today EDIG is fully engaged in patent licensing and has survived reexams at the USPTO. Things look really good from my view (albeit from a "distance", as I don't follow nearly as closely as I once did). It's just a matter of time, and great things could happen at any moment. So I got back in - in a relatively small way (my attention more directed at PTSC).
As far as this Agora forum, I see a lot of familiar names and a continued upbeat tone . My only posts in recent years have been about "reality checks" and have been IMO well received here, with clarification politely provided as appropriate.
The new "cloud" technology goes over my head (!), but garners a lot of attention in the tech world and should provide for a future beyond Flash . Patents in place, and great potential it seems.
So I have again gained optimism about EDIG's prospects, and made a bet on dramatic success - having taken advantage of an obvious buying opportunity created by a small "panic sell-off" for no good reason. My only concern is this recent trading pattern, where nothing changed in the grand scheme except the PPS being down temporarily. This concern is more on an emotional level, because (as I suggest) IMO nothing really changed on a technical /fundamental level. So I expect the PPS to bounce back and continue in the right direction. It seems it should have already happened, but I'm obviously convinced it will relatively soon.
