Yep before the PC/video age geological/nautical survey maps/charts/surveys/pub's were fun for children of all ages-even those who didnt otherwise like to read--
the soundings are typically by convention in the average of the lower of the 2 low tides each day-some ports like Ningbo cheat and use high tide to advertise their ship draft capacity which would make me nervous if I were a ship captain
