New info from Nat. Weather Service. El reno okla tornado Widest tornado on record, 2.6 miles wide. Winds clocked @ 296 mph by doppler radar set in tornado path. Went from .5 miles to 2.6 miles wide in 30 seconds. That is what caught the storm chasers off guard and cost them their lives.
