Held in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina from June 1 st to June 7 th , the 2013 Triple-S Invitational is billed as the "biggest and best professional kiteboarding event in the world." High-income, corporate executives have been making a pilgrimage to the event, drawn by its danger, beauty and full-body workout.

Originating out of Hawaii in the mid-1990s, kiteboarding combines wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding and gymnastics into one extreme sport. Riders literally harness themselves to the wind with a large controllable power kite and propelled across the water on a kiteboard, similar to a small surfboard, at speeds approaching 70 miles per hour, while hurling themselves in excess of 60 feet in the air.
