Very interesting! I do enjoy word and or Phrase origin. Here’s one for you. Do you know where and why people say bless you when you sneeze? It is not actually used to day in the correct meaning and if it people actually knew it’s meaning they would not use it. In Europe when plagues devastated populations. When someone sneezed, they were immediately blessed ("God bless you!") in the hope that they would not subsequently develop the plague. All that prayer apparently worked, judging by how quickly the plague of 590 AD diminished.
