I recently heard that in 2012 that CMU published a white paper saying that the GeckoImager was not possible.
Guess those researchers missed GOSY's youtube video on their home page demonstrating mobile robot navigation using the "rabbit ear" prototype CareBot. It's the second one down on the page: http://www.geckosystems.com
