Absolutely on point A: The mission is to be able to sell the rights to the highest bidder (I am assuming) as each patent surfaces. In stem cell medicine, they can be catering to a multitude of pharma companies for the duration so long as they are protected from takeover.
Point B makes all the sense in the world.
