Agreement signed on Tuesday (7) during the Climate Conference of the United Nations COP 16 in Cancun, Mexico, inject 18 million euros (about U.S. $ 51.5 million) in funding from the Amazon Fund projects.
The budget was approved by a donation agreement signed by the National Bank for Economic Development (BNDES) and the German Development Bank (KFW).
With the new agreement, Germany becomes the second country to donate resources to the Amazon Fund. The first was Norway, which had agreed in 2009 to invest $ 1 billion in the background by 2015.
Managed by BNDES, the Amazon Fund brings together initiatives Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) and has approved 13 projects worth U.S. $ 189 million.
