TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 24, 2013) - UOMO Media Inc. (OTCBB:UOMO), a multi-channel media and entertainment company, is pleased to announce today that its Recorded Music Division, UOMO Records, has renewed its distribution deal with Universal Music Canada Inc.
With this deal, Universal Music is the exclusive distributor of UOMO Media's music based content from its Recorded Music Division and independent record label. Universal Music will continue to manage the sales, marketing and distribution of UOMO's growing catalogue of music and artists. UOMO's products will be promoted and distributed over a wide array of services and platforms including digital, physical, streaming, subscription and mobile. Universal has been the industry market share leader for the past fifteen years.
Mr. Camara Alford, CEO and Chairman of UOMO Media comments, "Over the last 12 months we have been diligently reassessing all of our industry alliances and I am very proud to be extending our relationship with Universal Music - one of the true global leaders in multi-platform media distribution. Universal Music and UOMO will work closely together with the shared goal of maximizing the potential of UOMO's catalogue and further expanding on our successful partnership. I look forward to continuing to work with our partners at Universal Music as we collaborate and release new and exciting projects together in the coming months."
Previous releases through this venture have garnered certified Gold and Platinum records, Number 1 Videos, and a MMVA Video of the Year award.
Nielsen SoundScan and Nielsen BDS, the entertainment industry's leading data information systems, announced that total music purchases (Physical Albums, Digital Albums and Digital Songs) are at an all-time high, surpassing 1.65 billion units in 2012, up 3.1% vs. 2011 driven by digital music sales, which continues to be a key growth element within the market. Within this figure, Universal Music Group leads the market share commanding over 32.41% of total album sales.
Further, IFPI's recently-released Recording Industry in Numbers 2013 reports that music subscription services are seeing rapid growth. Music subscription and ad-supported streaming services now account for 20% of digital revenues globally, up from 14% in 2011. These facts show the music industry has not only adapted to the Internet and monetized the digital marketplace. Music is driving technology, helping sell devices, fuelling economic growth with a ripple effect far beyond the limits of the recorded music market.
