Hollund's only real competitor in the underwater logging industry is Triton Logging, a privately held company that uses a submarine the size of a car connected to the surface by cables and air hoses. Triton has recently introduced a more practical system for underwater logging, called the Sharc. However, the Sharc system is only capable of shallow water harvesting with depths limited to approximately 75 feet and the barge used to bring the sharc into position for harvesting must maneuver directly over the target tree before harvesting can begin. Another drawback for the Sharc is that its visual capability is located at the surface, making accurate place of cutting equipment difficult in murky water.
