STAMFORD, CT--(Marketwired - Apr 18, 2013) - Protegrity Corporation, a leading provider of end-to-end data security solutions, announced today that Voltage Security, Inc.'s and Ingrian Networks, Inc.'s (now SafeNet) requests for summary judgment of non-infringement have been denied by the judge. Court dates for trial will be set later this year.
In April 2008, Protegrity sued Ingrian/SafeNet for infringing U.S. Patent 6,321,201, U.S. Patent 6,693,980, and U.S. Patent 7,325,129 . After the court interpreted the claims of the patents, Protegrity filed additional lawsuits against Voltage Security and nuBridges, Inc. (now Liaison Technologies). Voltage Security initially sought to invalidate the claims of U.S. Patent 6,321,201 through reexamination, which proved unsuccessful. Voltage Security and Ingrian/SafeNet later filed motions asking the judge to rule in their favor on the question of infringement. Those motions were denied. The patent infringement lawsuit against nuBridges was settled in February 2013.
This ongoing legal battle concerns some of the core patents of Protegrity's data security software business. Protegrity's patents cover important methods for companies needing to comply with the data protection requirements of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act), state legislation, and others. In this legal effort, Protegrity seeks significant financial damages based on lost profits and defendant sales and a permanent injunction against use of the software.
