GeckoImager is AWESOME!
..................Here's why- First off it functions sort of like a human's "visual cortex" in that it takes the raw image from the retina and transforms that raw image into an image comprehensible by our conscious mind. Every time I read about the visual cortex and how it does what it does, the researchers basically say "magic happens." The GeckoImager takes a huge "point cloud" from 2 differently positioned depth cameras, discriminates RELIABLY between good data and bad data, and then abstracts the massive quantities of good data into smaller quantities for high level interpretation by GeckoNav. While the 2 depth cameras have the same intrinsic FOV, those FOV's must be perfectly aligned physically and electronically such that the 2 abstracted data streams are perfectly congruent. Spencer was wise to use a very stable, efficient, and mature version of Linux on a dual core Intel Atom running at 1.6gHZ. Smart, VERY SMART! Given the redundancy of the algorithms being used, I suspect that lower cost CPU's can be used that don't have all the fancy capabilities that X86's have. Both cameras run at 20 fps, so GeckoNav is being updated by GeckoImager every 50ms. FANTASTIC!
GOSY achieved this cost reduction with PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT nearly 2 years ago! Now to BUILD and SELL CareBots!
