Medtronic of Canada Ltd . (Medtronic), a trusted Canadian leader in innovative medical technologies and health system solutions, has been recognized as one of Canada's Best Large Workplaces for 2013, as part of the Great Place to Work® Institute's annual competition. This special designation recognizes the Top 50 large and multinational companies with more than 1,000 employees worldwide. It is based primarily on a survey of employees, which generates a Trust Index © score, and is combined with a Culture Audit © to determine the winners.

As part of its Culture Audit, Medtronic of Canada was recognized by the Great Place to Work ® Institute for its various diversity and inclusion initiatives. Medtronic of Canada has a history of partnering with various community organizations to actively engage new immigrants. In 2012, Medtronic of Canada helped recent immigrants gain Canadian experience by providing on-the-job training in their offices. "To connect with new immigrants, we first worked with the Newcomer Centre of Peel, a non-profit organization that serves the region of Peel." says Andre Guerin, Director of HR. "We then carefully review the candidate's international skills and qualifications and ensure that we provide on-the-job experience that will leverage or enhance these skills."
Each trainee receives a monetary honorarium from Medtronic. Last year, Medtronic provided on-the-job experience to four internationally trained professionals, whom they have now hired either on a permanent or contract basis.
The recognition of Canada's Best Large Workplaces for 2013 is one of many honours Medtronic of Canada has received over the last few years. Since 2011, Medtronic was ranked as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers and a Top Employer in the GTA each year, and a Best Employer for New Canadians since 2012 by Media Corp.
