MULTIMEDIA UPDATE: With Suds and Spirit, TownePlace Suites Helps Clean the World

HARRISBURG, PA--(Marketwired - Apr 10, 2013) - Most people don't give much thought to what happens to the partially used bars of soap that get left behind in their hotel rooms. Throwing them out seems like a waste, but clearly they can't be used for the next guest. By partnering with Clean the World, the TownePlace Suites Harrisburg Hershey has worked towards a third option -- recycling into brand-new bars of soap.

In 2012, the hotel collected 412 lbs. of soap, helping to create nearly 2,000 new bars of soap which will be distributed to children and families in need all around the world. This represents over 600 total lbs. of waste diverted from local landfills.

Working with over 1,700 hotel partners, Clean the World ( www.CleanTheWorld.org ) has recycled and distributed 12 million bars of soap to children and families in need in 65 countries. Founded in 2009, Clean the World operates with a simple, two-part mission: to collect and recycle soap and shampoo products discarded by the hospitality industry every day; and through the distribution of these and other donated hygiene products to impoverished people, prevent the millions of deaths caused by hygiene-related illnesses every day.
