Sweden’s wind power sector is picking up fresh backing from one of the world’s biggest corporate energy buyers after American tech company Amazon signed four new long-term agreements to buy carbon-free electricity from wind projects across central and southern Sweden. Together, the new deals add close to 200 MW of fresh carbon-free capacity to the Swedish grid.
Once every project tied to Amazon in the country is fully up and running, the company’s total footprint there will reach nine wind projects and 985 MW of capacity, enough to cover the annual electricity needs of more than 350,000 households. That builds on 2025, when Amazon was already Sweden’s largest single corporate buyer of carbon-free power.
The Swedish push sits inside a much larger global strategy for the tech firm. Amazon has now backed over 700 renewable energy projects worldwide, totaling more than 40 GW of carbon-free capacity. According to Amazon, this makes it the biggest corporate buyer of clean energy on the planet.
Within Europe specifically, that includes more than 260 projects and over 10 GW of new capacity, spread across a mix of wind and solar developments as the company works to match its operations with renewable power at scale.
The four latest agreements span a mix of locations and project sizes. The largest is the 132 MW Fageråsen wind farm in Malung-Sälen, Dalarna, currently under construction through a partnership between Eolus, OX2 and Dala Vind.
The other three smaller wind farms are already feeding electricity into the grid: the 31.5 MW Fågelås project in Hjo, the 18 MW Dållebo farm in Ulricehamn, and the 17.5 MW Boarp site in Vaggeryd, all part of a portfolio developed by Eolus and owned by investment manager Mirova.
Together, those three sites had already reached commercial operation before the new agreements were signed, meaning the carbon-free electricity they generate is being delivered to the Swedish grid right now rather than waiting on future construction.
Amazon Sweden’s country manager, Gülfem Toygar, said the country leads the world in carbon-free energy production, and that Amazon wants to build on that momentum, framing the company’s wind investments as a way to help bring more clean power onto the national grid.
The Swedish deals form part of a broader commitment under Amazon’s Climate Pledge, through which the company has set a target of reaching net-zero emissions across its entire business by 2040.
As more large corporations expand their investments in clean energy, entities like American Fusion Inc. (OTC: AMFN) could, in future, land these tech titans as customers needing customized solutions.
