In my big, fat, borderline worthless opinion, I think Jay and the treating physicians are seeing some impressive results. Maybe it was just biomarkers to start, since they barely had over five patients enrolled when Jay excitedly fired off two abstracts for AACR, including a "clinical outcome" abstract. But now they've enrolled the majority of the trial participants, and they have more substantial results from patients that have now gone weeks or months. If they're making changes that remove restrictions on who can enter, the logical reason is because they now believe Leronlimab can help those patients too.
If you think about it, this is really the first good trial of Leronlimab in cancer. Yes, we got some great data out of the previous efforts, but that came from yoinking (medical term) a small number of patients from a handful of trials. This will be what, almost triple the amount of patients from the previous trials and it'll all be zeroed in on one type of cancer patient? That's exciting, and I think the impressive things they seem to be seeing are probably a result of our little mab finally getting to spread its wings. Sure, it's not a large trial, all things considered. But it is huge for us, and appears from the outside to be living up to our expectations.
Oh, and one other reason you could argue for opening up the trial to participants who otherwise would have been denied by enrollment criteria, is that they couldn't find enough of their desired patient type. But we know that isn't the case because enrollment has gone extremely well based on what we've been told. I just don't see another reason they'd ease up on the enrollment criteria if they weren't confident it wouldn't matter.
