Companies partner to increase recovery of wood in underwater logging

Washington state-based Hollund Industrial Marine has partnered with the online lumber mill service company, North Cal Wood Products in California to expand the underwater logging market.

Together, the two companies plan to market Hollund's Tiger-Lynk technology globally to governments, utilities and communities with reservoirs to tap into an estimated $50 billion in undeveloped underwater logging.

The practice allows lumber firms to log trees from underwater forests that exist where woodlands have been flooded to create artificial reservoirs and dams. While the trees die in the process, the wood is usually preserved and can be reclaimed for use in manufacturing. Hollund's Tiger-Lynk underwater tree harvester system fells the trees and brings them to the surface.

Reclaimed woods from underwater logging is in keeping with sustainability trends in the wood products industry.

For makers of wood products that are manufactured by high-end CNC machines and classical machining equipment distributed by Stiles Machinery, the potential for greater sales goes hand-in-hand with new avenues of recovering wood.
