Harmless--For the record, I did say "I am coming to the conclusion" that a buyout would be a sellout... But I'm not there yet as we haven't seen any details of a deal or who might be interested and how they would develop the molecule. I will always hold out hope for a company with integrity and the vision thing--along with deep pockets--to make Cytodyn an offer that she can't refuse. But I share your skepticism about the Big Pharma Goliaths and laughed out loud at your post!
I don't think "business-as-usual" will lead to a fair valuation of the company from said Goliaths. I would like to see some creativity from Cytodyn and it's suitors when negotiations get down to brass tacks. And that is true whether it comes down to a partnership or a buyout. We have an extremely effective and safe drug that makes many drugs way better, often by simply being added to the standard of care. And the addressable markets are huge. That is both a threat to many and an opportunity for some. Just looking at the cancer indication, this gives us tremendous LEVERAGE! We should use it.
I hope Hoffman is prepared to dangle all the possibilities out there... and the dollar signs. Let them sweat a little... or a lot! But take a step back. Wall Street and Silicon Valley have institutionalized and weaponized fear and greed as a normal part of business--dog eat dog, move fast and break things, winner takes all... And if you're not a winner you're a loser... That kind of mentality and practice. But what about reasonable men and women discussing a massive opportunity, with a huge pie and plenty to go around? What about shared opportunity and mutual self-interest... anchored in shared values? Cooperation instead of competition? I would say the quality and values of the company we deal with is going to be as or more important than how much up-front cash they can come up with.
For Cytodyn and it's shareholders, any deal should include CVRs (Contingent Value Rights) based on future milestones or sales metrics (if it's a buyout). And why not parcel out different indications to different companies, with agreed-upon and well-defined plans for development--starting with the Big Enchilada--CCR5-positive cancers. (The bonus for this approach is that it will speed up the development of leronlimab as multiple companies will be testing the drug in different indications. Concurrently.). Hoffman will be central to all this, and we'll see if his business acumen--and his creativity--are a match for the moment and the molecule.
Lalezari has always mentioned two priorities in his letters--getting leronlimab into patients, and rewarding shareholders. Those two priorities might not end up in alignment. I suspect Cytodyn will take less to get leronlimab into patients sooner than later. There is a higher calling here, after all, and like Evil Rabbit, I'm okay with that. But I wouldn't mind a big fat dividend for the rest of my natural life from a Cytodyn Holding Company... or some such unconventional arrangement (that won't end even if the company gets sold). Get to work, Hoffman! Get creative and put that leverage to work. But play nice if they do...
