Kat--I was trying to suggest that with the development of Keytruda biosimilars, Cytodyn has plenty of options and substantial leverage. Perhaps trying to utilize the metaphor of the pharma sharks and the orcas eating great white livers was a bit much. And took something away from the point.
I was surprised to find so many big firms are already working on Keytruda biosimilars. And three of those companies--Amgen, Sandoz/Novartis, and the Samsung subsidiary--all have some real business muscle and means. Of course we already have a relationship with Samsung. They did a real solid for us... who knows if there was any quid-pro-quo?
The Merck/Moderna cancer vaccine--known as mRNA -4157/V940--is in Phase 3 trials for melanoma and NDCLC. It's combined with Keytruda, and is also being studied in Phase 2 trials in renal, urothelial, and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. They may think they really have something there. The mRNA component will probably boost PDL-1 and improve the current SOC. And they have ADCs they have spent billions on, in various trials in multiple indications.
Were you or I the CEO of Merck, we'd do the math on partnering or buying out Cytodyn in order to establish a new standard of care in all the CCR5+ cancer indications with the newly patented SubQ Keytruda and leronlimab. I suspect we'd pull the trigger. Will Merck? Will hubris and/or group-think in the C-suite cause them to pass? Are they really convinced in leronlimab's ability to both manage metastasis and boost PDL-1, and will they pay for the former if they think they have got the latter with the mRNA vaccine? Is another company going to step in, act quickly, and make us an offer we can't refuse?
Ultimately I don't really have a clue which Big Pharma is going to end up working with Cytodyn. Merck's got a lot invested in other assets. But if it is Merck, and they make a fair offer and Cytodyn likes how they plan to develop leronlimab, I'm good with that. Let's start saving lives!
We have quite a bit of leverage right now. Part of this is the prospect of generic Keytruda in combination with leronlimab. As well as the early, positive reports of PDL-1 increase in mCRC trial. As we wait for the data... I love where we are at.
