Although not mentioned in the article, I believe this pathway triggers the production of CCL5 amongst other cytokines.
cGas-Sting increases both CCL5 and CCR5 leading to impaired clearance of beta-amyloid and tau plaques. More importantly the increase in CCR5 and CCL5 leads to an upregulation of overactive microglia that kills neurons.
