Hi surfrebel, I love your moniker, I’m an old

I love your moniker, I’m an older version of that myself on the East Coast. And there’s a blues, rock, reggae band by the same name around these parts.
PD-L1 (programmed death ligand one) is typically used to signal the human bodies immune system to see a tumor and bring death to the cancer.
What many solid tumors do in the biochemistry of the tumor microenvironment is lessen, or down regulate, the amount of PD-L1 in that environment.
So therefore, the human body does not recognize the invasive tumor growing within its boundaries.
With PD-L1 being so low in serum, tumors are masked, and considered cold. Because nothing is happening there except they have successfully defeated the bodies Pd-L1 signaling abd the tumor can grow and metastasize at will. Uninhibited.
It’s also important to remember when considering the difference between hot and cold tumors, the tge body heats up when one is experiencing a major human body immune response. Think about a bad fever in a flu, or Covid illness. The fever is due to the immjve response.
Carry that forward to the difference between cold and hot tumors.
If we are able to increase PD-L1, which the tumor is trying to decrease in order to hide itself, then we can expose the tumor not only to the bodies immune defenses, but other combination drugs such as Checkpoint Inhibitors.
If we truly turn Cold Tumors into Hot Tumors. Well, that’s the ballgame for several dozen solid tumor cancers.
INHO,
Chazzle
