The current shareholder count can be known at any time by the company. It appears that this information has not been updated lately.

Depending on how the company shares are held, a public company can either get a shareholder list with share count directly from the transfer agent, or as is the case with most accounts where shares are being traded through a brokerage firm and your shares are in street name then shareholder information can be requested by the company from the DTCC, (Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation) that the brokerage house uses.

Public companies take this individual shareholder data and add the public filings for institutional holdings to get a total shareholder count.

Remember this shareholder count also works for voting rights if the company charter allows it. Restricted shares can count if the charter allows it or if they are registered as owned of vested even though not deposited into a brokerage account. Shares not counted or available for voting would be non exercised employee options, non exercised investment warrants and non converted convertible debt meaning any shares that can be counted as part of full dilution but have not been converted.
