Plotinus: I hardily concur with your analysis. I would simply add that the biggest obstacle to what should be a successful negotiation is when one side misconstrues the dispersion of leverage between the parties. If one side grossly overplays its leverage, and that happened in the 3 cases I referenced, the other side has no choice but to walk away or capitulate. Let's hope BP stayed focused on greed in a constructive vs destructive manner.
