Clean Energy Messaging Switches to Job Creation an
Post# of 132

For the past several decades, calls to transition from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy have been centered around preserving the environment and combating climate change. After all, fossil fuels produce millions of tons of carbon emissions every year and have been scientifically proven to contribute to climate change.
However, the messaging around clean energy is shifting from ‘saving the planet’ to creating jobs and providing folks with new money-making opportunities. Renewable energy has already created tens of thousands of jobs globally and is expected to create many more over the next couple of decades. Centering green energy around jobs and money could potentially improve public support for renewables and attract more funding for renewable energy projects.
In the past, green energy proponents have cited the environmental impact of fossil fuels as the main reason for switching to renewables like wind, solar, and geothermal. This approach has been somewhat successful at making countries and their leaders serious about lowering their greenhouse gas emissions.
However, with President Donald Trump referring to renewables as the ‘green new scam’ and taking steps to reverse all of the previous administration’s green energy-related measures, it may be time for the renewable energy industry to adopt a different approach. Focusing on the potential profits the U.S. could earn if it fully transitions to renewables could help win over hardliners who don’t believe fossil fuels are harmful to the environment and human health.
The renewables sector is now focusing more on the profit aspect of switching to renewables and has embarked on a massive lobbying campaign that’s centered around how renewables could help the U.S. economy via job creation. Green energy lobbyists even wore label pins declaring ‘American energy dominance,’ co-opting a phrase President Trump loves to show the current Republican administration just how profitable green energy could be.
In a recent speech, U.N. Climate Executive Secretary Simon Stiell cited a friend who said only so much progress could be made by relying on people’s ‘better angels.’ Educating people on the economic benefits they stand to gain from renewable energy may be more effective at making them pro-green energy than centering green energy around saving the environment.
Former U.S. Representative Bob Inglis says the profit angle could bring in a lot of Republican support as renewables do have the potential to generate a lot of revenue. The South Carolina Republican says that if the U.S. plays its cards right, its fledgling green energy industry could create plenty of domestic jobs, create significant wealth, and make the U.S. a world leader in green energy.
For firms like First Tellurium Corp. (CSE: FTEL) (OTCQB: FSTTF) that are positioned to tap the growing market in the energy transition movement, the change in messaging to job creation and revamping economies is a welcome switch if it produces the desired perception change and spurs the transition to clean energy.
