It may not be so much ignorance and stupidity but factors like using an unproven by the FDA medicine or technique on a patient will promptly engender a malpractice suit or a state medical board action to revoke the license if the medicine or treatment doesn't work out. Self serving of course, but the therapist must survive to treat patients again another day.
Even if the drug is an all star like Leronlimab which will gain approval. Most docs understand CCR5 and the cytokine flow in the body. I'm sorry your doc essentially cut you off from a good discussion. Those kinds of days will soon be in the past as the studies keep coming out.
