OHSU researchers have secured an additional $1 million from the Gates Foundation through their Grand Challenges Explorations funding program.
Research will be led by assistant scientist Jonah Sacha, Ph.D., at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute on OHSU’s West Campus. Sacha and his colleagues will attempt to develop a protective, anti-body based AIDS vaccine that prevents the virus from infecting the host, a goal that has eluded scientists for years.

the research team led by VGTI associate director Louis Picker, M.D., and professors Klaus Früh, Ph.D., and Scott Hansen, Ph.D. The group has been working on developing this vaccine platform since the early 2000s, and in 2016, their OHSU startup company, TomegaVax, was acquired by San Francisco-based Vir Biotechnology. The company is currently testing the platform in a human clinical trial for HIV, together with the National Institutes of Health and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Hansen / Sacha / Deeks on covid paper
Stephen Deeks goes back decades, to today, with Dr. McCune, the Director since 2018 of the Bill and Melinda Gates Frontier Program than focuses on HIV & stem cells
We recently saw Dr. Sacha report blocking HIV without using stem cells, for 2 years
Believe that's also in the 2 non allogenic papers showing success without stem cell process
