Maraviroc made a splash when it first hit market, but blackbox warnings and blips marginalized it. It’s still blocks CCR5 from a small molecule perspective But we all know it doesn’t do the same job as LL. PFE knows this and GSK knows this. G is fully aware.
But ViiV Got its hands on dolutegravir Which made it an immediate and valid threat to G regarding HIV.
The real money with LL is in HIV cure and long acting LL for HIV Along with AAV If that proves out in humans.
The big players in HIV know this and that’s why Dr. Max was put in. Someone had to make a move and ViiV Brilliantly did it first. Someone mentioned earlier that when the first move is made the seat starts to get hot and I think a lot of companies are now trying to have conversations with CYY to demonstrate their interest and learn more.
These are the beginnings of a bidding war. Not saying offers are being made on the table and I’m not saying a buyout is coming immediately. I just think with Dr. Max being put in place two weeks ago tomorrow after the infant rhesus Data that came out two weeks ago today - that shows us that moves are being made. Lots going on we can’t even see right now.
I think we get a few more surprises in the coming months.
