Nickel
Tsingshan is the world's largest producer of nickel, accounting for about 20% of the global market. The company has a nickel mining, refining, and production hub in Indonesia, where it's mastered the high-pressure, acid-leach (HPAL) nickel extraction technology. Tsingshan's Indonesian projects are built at a fraction of the cost of its competitors, and the company has been able to drive down the price of nickel.
Lithium
Tsingshan invested $375 million in 2022 to build a lithium plant in Argentina with France's Eramet. Tsingshan also has a deal with China's SAIC Motor to build a battery gigafactory in southern Guangxi province. Tsingshan Chairman Xiang Guangda has said that the company may consider building a lithium battery industry park in Chile, which has the world's largest reserves of lithium.
Battery manufacturing
Tsingshan has a battery subsidiary, Ruipu Energy, and an energy storage developer, Foxess. Foxess integrates NMC high nickel batteries produced by Ruipu Energy into its energy storage systems.
