* New capacity
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects that solar will account for 63% of new electric capacity additions in 2024, up from 46% in 2022 and 54% in 2023. The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) says that solar has been the primary source of new generating capacity for the grid for the past three years and expects that to continue in 2024.
* Total generation
The EIA also predicts that solar power generation will increase by 75% between 2023 and 2025, though other power sources will still account for the majority of power generation. Wood Mackenzie predicts that total solar deployment will increase to over 670 GWdc by 2034, which would be almost four times the current level.
* Manufacturing capacity
Wood Mackenzie predicts that US module manufacturing capacity will reach 38 GW by the end of 2024 and 57 GW by the end of 2025.
* Solar batteries
MarketWatch expects that solar batteries will become more popular and less expensive in the coming years, and that most solar panel systems installed in the next two to five years will include battery storage.
