When they talk about "protection" for the heart and kidneys, they are talking about (at least temporary) improvements for obese and diabetic patients. What about the many non-obese older patients who already have problems sustaining a high enough weight, especially those who have cancer? Some studies indicate that used of these drugs may cause permanent changes in the ability of the body to metabolize food. What if someone takes these drugs to lose those 10 or 20 pounds, then gets cancer that causes a detrimental weight loss that can't be reversed?
As more people report problems from taking these drugs, people are going to be a lot more cautious about asking their doctors for them.
