We need a femme fatale from a drug company to seduce an FDA functionary, and then she either blackmails him or continues the pillow talk to get him to sabotage CYDY, and incidentally give her all the information that she passes on to her drug company while they block CYDY's progress so they can frantically try to find a molecule that can do the same stuff.

Meanwhile the excitable and gullible CEO, let's call him Redan, is led on by someone he thinks is his friend, the CEO of the contracted CRO -- let's call it Aremax -- and appealing to his desire to be with the big boys, ropes him into high-stakes poker games. Little does Redan know that there is an elaborate cheating scheme designed to get him into tremendous debt, so that he will enter into an insider trading scheme to be able to pay back his huge gambling debt.....

You get the idea. All kinds of subplots and motivations for the bad acts, not so much time on the science and machinations of the FDA.
