If approved, most drug companies will be out of business, and hospitals and doctors will suffer. The list goes on! Ask OHM how many cancers, etc, we handle.
Right now leronlimab has only been used as an adjuvant therapy. We know it does a great job of boosting the effect of chemotherapies. Leronlimab strips down tumor defenses and boosts killer macrophages that are directed to the tumor cell by chemokine activation of other CCR receptors which can eradicate them. It is a possibility that leronlimab can do an equal job on it's own which would be a blessing to patients who can avoid chemotherapy. But we won't know that until trials are done with leronlimab as a single agent.
There are a myriad of diseases that leronlimab won't treat so the pharmaceutical companies won't be out of business it will just cripple them.
I hope that Cytodyn can maintain control of the drug so that it's price and prescribing is done in an ethical way. But eventually hedge funds and other malignancies on society would gather the majority of the shares and push Cytodyn into profit at any cost. That is the nature of the beast that is capitalism.
There is a reasonable chance that instead after a successful phase 2 or 3 trial completion that big pharma steps in and makes an offer. The only bulwark against that is the shareholders. With a successful trial the shareholder mix will change with new shareholders and hedge funds jumping in. Long term shareholders who vote against will almost certainly be outvoted in favor of a quick buck for the newer shareholders.
