We don't live in a Democracy, we live in a constitutional republic. It's in the Constitution and bill of rights. Not a single word in either document mentions "Democracy".
If it were, California, Illinois and New York state would dictate life in the US. The small groups would be out voted every time.
We live in a Republican form of government that protects the small from the big.
It treats all equally under the law.
