Most, in not all, of the materials listed will be imported from China. As such, they will be subject to a 25% tariff.
Even if the goods received free entry for assembly in the US, which they won’t, what is the advantage of manufacturing in the US. The labor rate will be substantially higher than those manufactured in China, taxes will be much higher than China, cost of money (financing) will be much higher than those in China, China can float the RMB currency etc.
I simply do not see the benefit of manufacturing in the US. I in fact, see it as a competitive disadvantage. Even taking China out of the equation, why not Mexico, Southeast Asia, South America etc.
Has anyone analyzed the total cost of manufacturing in the US to see if one can compete in this arena?
