U.S. markets were near flat Thursday, with the S&P 500
on the cusp of a record close. Asia-Pacific markets were mostly down on the last trading day of 2023. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index
fell around 0.35%, but mainland China’s Shanghai Composite
managed to eke out a 0.3% gain. Both indexes are on track to be the biggest losers among the region’s markets.
