DENVER, March 13, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Discovery Gold Corporation (OTCQB: DCGD) ("Discovery Gold" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that the Company has appointed Mr. T. Greg Hawkins, M.Sc, P.Geo, to its Strategic Advisory Board. Currently, Mr. Hawkins (CME & Co Enterprises Inc.) is the senior geological consultant for the Company's Edum Banso Gold Project in Ghana.
Discovery Gold's President, Steven Flechner stated, "Greg Hawkins is highly respected by the professional mining community and we are honored to have him increase his role and level of commitment to Discovery Gold and the Edum Banso Gold Project in Ghana. I personally worked alongside Greg on a gold exploration project in Ghana during the 1990's and I know that his extensive and successful experience and reputation as a gold-finder in Ghana will assist the Company as we seek to accelerate work at Edum Banso."
Greg Hawkins has been involved in the mining exploration and investment industry since 1969. During his career, he has been variously responsible for the identification and/or delineation of ten mineral deposits in Canada, USA, Chile, Ghana, Mali, and Zaire (DRC) at Gilt Edge, Andacolla, Kubi Village, Tabakoto, Twangiza, Namoya, Skukum Creek, Goddell Gulley, Kobada, and Harper Creek. Mr. Hawkins has consulted to a number of established gold exploration and production companies on their West African mining projects including: Anglo American, Barrick Gold Corp., Nevsun Resources Ltd., Banro Resource Corporation, Cypress Amax, Gold Fields, and JCI. He has lived in Canada, Nigeria (1980-81) and Ghana (1993-2007) while pursuing his mining industry career.
While acting as founding project consultant and/or founding director of seven public and private exploration/development ventures (Brohm Mining Inc., Dayton Mining Inc., Nevsun Resources Ltd., Banro Resource Corp., Tagish Lake Gold Corp., African Gold Group Inc., and Yellowhead Mining Inc.), Mr. Hawkins has participated in or been responsible for the definition of at least one mineral reserve in every case, with five cases that have resulted in mineral production in the USA, Chile, Ghana and Mali. These ventures collectively have accounted for over $2.1 Billion in market cap at their respective peaks.
In 1990, Mr. Hawkins started CME, an international full service consultancy and contracting network which included Spectral International Geophysics, Eagle Drilling and ATS Inc. The CME network has served over 100 clients in 17 countries and has employed over 3,000 people. He is also an accomplished author and presenter of a number of papers on exploration, exploration philosophy, and mineral economics. In 2004, he was awarded the Frank Woodside Past President Award by the British Columbia and Yukon Chamber of Mines, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the mining industry. Mr. Hawkins holds an M.Sc. in Mineral Economics from McGill University and a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Alberta.
"Exploration and mining in Ghana can be very challenging, but with the proper management and guidance, Ghana presents some of the world's most exciting gold mining opportunities," stated Hawkins. "I have spent much of my career working with young aggressive companies in Ghana, like Discovery Gold, and have been instrumental in moving their most promising projects forward as quickly and efficiently as possible. The Edum Banso Gold Project appears to have all the elements of a high-quality high-potential gold prospect and I anticipate rapidly advancing exploration work there."
Company President, Steve Flechner added, "CME have completed initial site reconnaissance, conducted meetings with relevant surface rights holders, and collected additional samples of rock outcrops and subcrops from high priority targets on the Edum Banso property. CME is now finalizing work on historic data research and compilation for an updated 43-101 compliant technical report to be released in the next two weeks. This report is expected to be followed by a detailed soil sampling and trenching program in order to identify and then actively pursue gold targets for drilling, subject to timely financing."
