It now appears to be more of a social decision rather than a scientific or clinical decision. Prejudice stems usually from, "we all have to have someone to be better than" thinking.
After all, didn't the smartest from the most elite schools go to populate Big Pharma? Why wouldn't you trust a long standing Big Pharma firm over some fly by night outfit? When I mention LL to my friend who was designing the Pandemic Quick Response for the DOD, he called it "voodoo" medicine in April 2020.
So socially the NP CC's were the perfect side show to prove the point about how much better and smarter they were on the social ladder. Only one problem, people were dying by the thousands and Remdesivir didn't work.
