Despite being a party to the CBD, Suriname has yet to develop framework environmental laws or laws that require and regulate environmental and social impact assessments (ESIA). If an ESIA is conducted, this is done either pursuant to an agreement between the government and a company or because the company in question is required to do so by its internal operating rules.
