'You're responsible for your behavior': Kevin McCarthy won't stop push to expel Matt Gaetz
Fox News/screen grab
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said he would not get involved in the possible push to expel Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) from Congress.
A Republican in the House of Representatives told Fox News that caucus members could move to expel Gaetz over an ethics complaint after he tried to force a government shutdown.
"No one can stand him at this point. A smart guy without morals," the unnamed Republican lawmaker reportedly said
During a Sunday interview, Fox News host Mike Emanuel asked McCarthy if he supported removing Gaetz.
"I believe I let the constituents select who they want to be there, but you're responsible for your behavior when you're in Congress," McCarthy replied. "I don't get involved in ethics complaints."
Instead, McCarthy said he was focused on passing appropriations bills to fund the government.
"We've got 46 more days to get to keep this government moving to secure our border, eliminate wasteful spending, end the wokeism, and we only do that if we lock arms together," he said. "I'm not going to give up. If somebody in the party wants to stop us from getting the most conservative bill, I'm going to go to the next and the next and the next."
An unnamed House Republican revealed that the caucus wants Gaetz "gone," and they may use the findings from the ongoing Ethics Committee investigation into the far-right congressman to oust him.

House Republicans seem eager to exact revenge against Matt Gaetz, the far-right lawmaker who served as the public face of a group of GOP holdouts who opposed their party’s attempts to avert a shutdown this past week.
News outlets including CNN and Fox reported on Sunday that Republicans in the lower chamber are looking towards the conclusion of a House Ethics Committee probe into the Republican congressman from Florida in the hopes that the probe’s findings could warrant (or excuse) his expulsion from the chamber.
Since 2021, the committee has been probing a range of allegations against Mr Gaetz, a top ally of Donald Trump. Those allegations including claims that he violated sex trafficking laws, accepted a bribe, and used campaign funds for personal use.
