When I buy something, I'll look around for the best price. It's not always Amazon and sellers on that platform change/shift their pricing more than Airlines, sometimes on a daily basis. Not everyone has a prime membership either with free shipping.
I know others that would never bother to shop around because of lack of time or that isn't something they like to do.
Then there is reciprocity. If someone takes time to help people, some will return the kindness.

Second, sampling builds a relationship between Costco members and the brands sampling products. We as humans are wired to want to repay another person when they give us something, especially for free. This is known as the rule of reciprocity.

I would say at Costco, more than 1/2 the time I'll buy the product I sample. That means I buy food, I never would have if someone didn't take the time to make me aware.
